It seems to be a popular thing now to put on a coat of epoxy primer as a sealer coat over old paint, especially if there are different types of paint, stops any reactions & creates a uniform surface. Once its dry you key it & put on your filler primer.
Yes, I have toyed with that. But alas, I decided against in order to be a cheap skate... this is only a track car so I don't think I need to go that far. I am going to paint a few panels at a time so if there are reactions then I will spot it quickly.
Thanks for the input though, epoxy primer is definitely a good shout and I would (will) use it if warranted. I'm currently decided against, but I may very well change my mind by the time it comes around to paint.
It also doesn’t contain any isocyanates like 2K so it’s a lot safer to sprayEpoxy primer is not expensive, roughly the same as normal primer.

That would be a new one one me. Can you tell us which product you mean please?
This has been very useful, I to used 60 or 80b grit so have lots of sanding ahead, is there any difference in technic, for painting ali panels understand need to etch prime bare metal
