I recently purchased a Denbeigh Number 6 Fly Press. Looking at the ram I figured I had a problem as the 1" rod in the tool hole was deformed and did not have a collar to keep it from being jammed into the ram tool hole. I was right, but with fingers crossed, I put a pipe wrench on it and attempted to see if I could get any movement going to loosen it; no such luck.
I figure I'm going to have to take the ram out and index the rod in a mill and machine it out slightly smaller than 1" hole, then carefully chisel out the remaining thin shell. The only problem is that my mill is in storage.
Two questions.
1.) Does anyone know how deep the ram tool holder hole might be ?
2.) I would appreciate suggestions on other possible solutions to remove the rod.
Thanks.
