Hello,
I’m a new member looking to make a decision on which MIG welder to get for automotive repair/restoration work, but probably other round the house kind of things first while I try to learn.
The decision is slightly complicated by currently being in Germany.
Looking around the local shops I find welders up to 500Euro (mainly GYS EasyMigs and similar) in the equivalent of B&Q but the minimum power ratings are normally at least 30Amps. And no real option of expert advice from the shop.
After starting reading this forum I had basically decided on a Portamig 165 or 186 which seem well regarded. However shipping to the continent doesn’t seem easy. Collection would be possible as I should be heading back to see my folks soon but slightly more hassle and cost. I am probably still leaning toward this option however.
In a little local specialist welding shop (with a friendly and helpful owner) we looked through a variety of catalogues but came away with an eye watering 1000Euro plus for a GYS Multi Pearl 200-2 which goes down to 20 Amp and is highly automated. Everything cheaper is 30Amp plus or professional grade and out of my budget.
Would really appreciate hearing peoples thoughts on either a Portamig 186 (or similar) or a GYS Multi Pearl 200-2? Are either recommendable?
Does anyone on hear have other "affordable" recommendations for MIG welders I might find in Germany?
And, any opinions on the automated functionality of the Multi Pearl?
Thanks in advance for your help!
I post some links to the two welders below.
