Hi,
As the wife and I had decided on just getting each other a little something for christmas this year I though I would have a go at making something to go in the house as a little extra present.Well that and it scratched an itch I had after looking through a lot of the impressive sculpture projects on here.It had to be my own idea,small-ish & tie in with the rest of the interior decoration, heres what I came up with.
I thought it would be best to keep things fairly simple with it being my first try so went for round bar as its fairly easy to shape using a home made tool I knocked up.Being a soppy git I had an attempt at a 3d heart, here goes.......
After drawing a few shapes out on the bench I bent up a few different curves.
First side tacked up.Was bloody awkward to get everything lined up & equal.
Second side welded up & a little bit of shaping done to the welded areas.
Tried a few ways of mounting it but they all looked overly complicated when done so went back to the simple is best school of thought & used a little circle and a small length of bar.It was positioned so that when its one the table and you are standing looking at it the heart will appear to "float" or at least thats the theory anyway!
Prepped it and gave it a few coats of satin black as we have a lot of black furniture where it will live so should tie in nicely.Kind of hard to see what going on it the first photo so apologies for that.
Overall im really pleased with how it turned out, pretty keen on doing another sculpture project as I have 2 weeks off over christmas to fill, just need to decide on another idea now.I thought about either rusting it/polishing & waxing but I don't think it would be the wife's thing so will give that a go on the next project.Hopefully it will be well received as I certainly enjoyed making it.
Comments and criticism welcome,Cheers Ross.
