So, after the facetious comments, this is the way it is. Gaz has hit upon it, leave them alone. Unless they really are from the pound shop then you get to go sit on the cheapskate step.
Most all lenses now are coated, I would be surprised if they are not. Touch this with any sort of abrasive and you are done, the coating will be removed first. Coatings can be replaced, but not always. The problem is the material, many lenses come finished to the prescription, especially varifocals, so the lens guy just cuts them to shape drills and mounts the frames. The material, the plastic, is a very refined polycarbonate. In most cases trying to polish out any marks and you smear the lens. They are deliberately soft so if there is any impact they do not shatter.
Because my glasses cost a few quid I decided to find out as much as possible, it helped that my daughter went into being an optician and I now get my glasses prescription filled at the place where all the opticians send their prescriptions to be filled. It has saved me a great deal of money and I always have a spare pair now. They can also, but not always, re-coat some lenses.

have you taken them to the shop see if they can be sorted if there that expensive its prob the coating thats marked not the glass if its not deep ?

Can’t help with the scratching but have any of you thought about just getting the lenses changed ? Luckily we have a company near us that make and fit new lenses to your frames if you have a new prescription for a fraction of the cost of new glasses. I know some opticians offer this service but they then send them off to a specialist and charge more. The company I use is All Eyes based in Over, Cambridge

The glasses I wear daily are £25 from spec savers I buy the same frames and the lenses are included
specs direct do glasses from £6, as melvyn mentioned if the frames are still good just get new lenses fitted

I take it your glasses are bi focal that go all the way across the bottom of the lense?

Not really helpful to the OP, but I get my specs, and prescription sunglasses, from SpeckyFourEyes online. I usually pay £15 - 20 for a designer brand (though let's be honest, they are just the same as cheaper unbranded ones). You need to know your prescription and what kind of specs suit you, but I have found the prescription to be spot on and the service good. Obviously if you have a more complex prescription, you need to see an optician. Asda opticians are also good as they don't charge for thinner lenses, which is good for folk like me who need jam jar bottoms.

Depends on the covering.
I buy glass with no coatings and when they start to cloud (plaster dust usually) they will polish out with toothpaste and elbow grease. That said it's time to get a new set out or book an appointment at the optician's.
Scratches you probably out of luck.

its glass = weight vs plastic = light
glass has more protection than plastic with cratches
but suffers if droped can break unlike the plastic lens
oh not forgetting non glasses wearers have a bad habbit when placing glasses down they can put the glasses on there lenses

live with it! I have had a fine scratch on my right hand lens for more than a year and I just don't notice it in normal use. If I try and focus and move my head until the light is just right then I can see it
When I did it (a few weeks after getting a new pair) it was a major thing but life has a way of making things like this fall into perspective and I honestly don't think about it all
except, I do now try and remember to put an old pair of glasses on to work....

Hi, Your brain will learn to ignore it just like it ignores your nose. If you close one eye you can see your nose on the edge of your vision but with both eyes open you can't see it.

I have got used to very light glasses with thin lenses. I suspect i am going to have to go down the road Varifocals or bifocal at some stage soon, so i know now what i'll be in for !!

Second that company. New lenses likely to be around £45 a pair for non-varifocals - they will probably offer to do both to keep the coatings the same colour.
