My once shiny beastie 1995 Triumph Speed Triple, dug it out today from the temporary garage with a view to putting it back on the road. Sat there far too long, 2009 the T&T ran out when the starter clutch went.

I hope to be doing a similar thing to my '97 Blackbird soon. Been laid up for about 8 or 9 years with a leaky cam cover gasket.

And Yes, I also feel suitably ashamed!

Ime slightly ashamed myself...recently just bought a 19,000 mile RF900 which has been laid up since 2010 and ive ripped off all the plastics,cut the frame and in the middle of building a complete Rat...Ashamed yes but i will get over it

Why Triumph stuck the sprag clutch in such a poxy position is beyond me! You're not the first person to leave a bike sat with a broken one.

Least with the engine already out it shouldn't be too difficult to sort.

It was an impulse buy at the end of 2003 and bit of a dog I paid too much for really, must have been wearing blinkers or rose tinted specs as there was loads wrong or bodged. I fixed just about all the faults within the first couple of weeks then highsided it on ice as I was impatient to ride it! Rode it around scuffed up for a while then the first starter clutch went and whilst inside the engine I found other bodges. Bought a Daytona to scrap and fitted the engine then a low miles writen off Speed Triple came up so I bought most of it and sold the Daytona engine. Stripped to a frame I went through everything with a fine tooth comb and bought it up to a good standard with a few wee modifications. It was orange and swapped to black using the tank and panels off the writen off bike along with the engine and swinging arm. Did a bit of a tour around Scotland in 2006 two up and then used it for high days until the starter clutch went and life just interrupted the fun. No idea where 9 years has gone leaving it to fester.

Early engines had a starter clutch access plate above the clutch casing that was deleted early on in the engines life.
