Hi, I'm new here and hoping for some input. I tried on some usa welding sites and got minimal responses about esab, so i thought i might learn more closer to it's home territory.
I acquired two esabs in an online auction-an mpi355 and a 300svi. I am hoping to use one to learn dc tig, stick, and mig. Both machines came with esab mig 35 wire feeders and 10 ft mig whips.
?Does anyone here have an opinion on the merits of either machine and which I should keep and which I should sell on?
They are set up for 3 phase 470v because they had been used in a factory that closed down...they are filthy on the outside and likely full of dust and grime inside too. I aim to clean them up(ideas?) and change to single phase 230v as per their manuals instructions.
Also, I got a miller spoolmatic 30a spoolgun and want to use this to mig aluminum--does anyone have an idea of how to do this with either esab--
I have heard they put out 48v ac to accessories while the miller uses 36vdc?
?If I can rectify and transform this current to the spoolguns dc input, is the rest done in the gun? It has a wirespeed switch under the handle--is this just a rheostat that changes the dc input to the motor, hence the speed?
Neither miller usa or esab na have returned my emails.
thanks -- peet
