Engine Getting Fuel

Hey guys,just a quick one what are the best and easiest ways of checking if fuel is getting though to a petrol engine. I've heard you can remove a spark plug have someone crank the engine and you should be able to smell fuel. Any other methods greatly appreciated.

Depends ...is it fuel injection. ..carb..what engine you got...

If you spin the engine over and it doesn't fire, take a plug out and see if it's wet with fuel.

squirt some wd 40 in to the cylinders and crank it over .if it fires up for a few seconds u will have your answer

Aye, this... a capful of petrol down the carb it used to be.

it depends on the engine, one of mine wont fire the injectors if the distributor doesnt work. you need more information about the car first.

The same goes (effectively) for the injected Rover V8; if there are no sparks then the injection ECU won't fire... but throwing some fuel down the inlet tracts at least tells you if there are sparks - and they have to be good fat ones on the RV8, weedy orange things won't cut it.

It's a fuel injection engine its a mk5 astra 1.6 16v Vauxhall engine.

OK. ..you need to be a little more percific in what problems your encounting. .does it turns over but not start...does it start and then stop..more details will help people's to help and point you in the right direction. .

She doesn't start at all just turns over as normal but will not fire, I removed the coilpack along with spark plug when engine its turned over (Spark plug touching the block) she is getting spark. So my best bet would be to spray easy start down the air intake and go from there.

I wouldn't do that just yet.....have you checked fuel pump is working....I would start at fuel pump and work back to engine....if your sparking on all four plugs then you no its fuel side......

Care needs to be taken with coilpacks. If it's a four way one, like on the Astra G, all four plugs will need to be connected and the outers properly grounded, else the HT for the poorly grounded plugs will find its way to something else in the coilpack, damaging it.

WD40 seems ne'er use nor ornament in that regard these days. Whatever they've changed in it, an engine starter aid it no longer is.

just a squirt in the plug holes and if theres a spark it fires . do it with petrol and it wets the plugs and wont start / its no use in the carb as an easy start

Plugs aren't a service item, they change them when they fail.

Its got a bleed valve on the fuel rail so just push the valve in with something while someone cranks it over then you will see if its getting fuel pressure mate

Thats a pressure test point, not a bleed valve.
