Hi all,
New user from the Netherlands here.
I have recently bought an old Maestro Mig 100 (also has a FERM sticker on there).
I really can't find anything on the brand or type of welder but it looks a lot like the SIP/COSMO welders I see on the pages here.
It also has the exact same wire feed mechanism as the SIP/COSMO's and the internals look more or less the same. (although a bit dirtier..)
Since I primarily weld outside and what I weld is thicker material (brackets on my motorcycle frame). I want to be able to use the machine with Fluxcore gasless wire but be able to switch back to gas later.
I have tried to read up on all the mods made on the SIP/COSMO welders and I am planning to do some too. (wire feed bracket for instance).
Some questions I have:
- My liner is a white plastic tube, there is a lot of friction so I assume I have to replace it. What type of liner fits these machines and is recommended for this application? (link to product would be awesome). I would normally use a .6mm steel wire or a 1.0mm fluxcore wire. Do I need seperate liners for those wires? It also looks like there is a seperate liner in my torch. I assume I would have to replace this too. What do you recommend here?
- My welder does not have the possibility to switch polarity. I notice when welding with the fluxcore that the arc really want to go towards the torch instead of the workpiece, penetration is pretty bad as a result. I want to be able to switch polarity but with the single wire trigger that would mean that I would short circuit my wire feed motor. I was thinking to have the trigger wire go into a standard relay and only use the trigger signal as trigger for the relay. In that case if I change polarity on the clamp and the torch and make sure I switch the lead to the relay trigger accordingly that would work right?
I am also contemplating the wire motor power feed mod but I have to admit it is a bit hard for me to understand what to get and what to do. I struggle with some of the terminology (English not being my native language) and it is a bit more difficult to get some of the parts here as I first have to try to translate to Dutch to see if I can find the parts.
Thanks in advance for all the help
