So, using a pillar drill, I have to make a load of holes in some stainless steel hand-rail brackets.
The brackets are Chinese stainless, supposedly 316. Thickness is about 5mm.
I need to put a single hole in each one, diameter of anything around 19-22mm.
One pass would be ideal,
I could use a few steps of drill bit (cobolt) if really necessary..
I have used the dewalt extreme drill bits on stainless with good results and no pilot hole is needed but they don't go big enough for this job.
What's the best cutter to use?
I have seen the carbide tipped hole saws on eBay but with a 20mm at about 3quid I am not expecting them to last long!
Other option is a decent quality bi-metal hole saw but the cutting speed on these is a bit slow really.
I don't have a coolant feed on the drill so it's soluble oil from a plant sprayer for lube although I do have rocal cutting/tapping fluid or the tricoflex cutting paste if better?
Any tips welcome!
