I have always struggled to sharpen drill bits and get them just right. I have a little gadget that runs off a drill and does a good job, but each drill bit requires setting up in the right position to get it right and in that time you could sharpen one on a grinder.
I had an idea and made it this morning, tried it out and it works very well. Rather than try to explain it, here are some photos.
A couple of arms bolted together to get it all in the right position with a 10mm bolt close to the grinding wheel. Then I welded a small piece of 3mm to the bolt at the correct angle of 31 degrees and angled it upwards a little bit.
Another pic taken from the side. I kept the 3mm short enough so that I can still hold onto the smaller / shorter drill bits but still long enough to align longer ones..
And this is it in action.
