This might seem an odd question but having used AC welders for most of my life (excluding the engine driven sets) before moving to using DC inverters, I just wondered if anyone keeps an AC set for any particular jobs. I must admit to still liking my old Arcos Lincoln transformer AC set that served me very well before being pushed aside by the inverter. I've never had many problems with arc blow on the DC sets and both weld very well with 6013 rods. Just wondering if there are any of the professional welders keep and use both types and if so on any particular rods. This is purely to settle my curiosity -nothing more - as much as I like the Arcos, it's too heavy to be lugging around and only suitable for workshop use. I would add that the drawback with the old set with the handle to turn to adjust the amps was when you were changing between rod sizes frequently on a job. Used to get to me so much so that on larger jobs, I used to borrow another set and have one set for 2.5 rods and one set for 3.2 rods. The ease of changing the Amps on the inverter is a real bonus.
