disco arch welding ..

Started chopping away the rust on one of the rear outer arches .. but is there supposed to be 2 skins here?

And what is the point of the dimple?

Done a few of those along with boot floor they always go there

They were already done .. 1 side is done well, this side had lots of pin holes that have rusted it out ..
Just this, drivers footwell and a bit on the edge of the boot floor and I should be good for now

By this stage the ally back quarter is usually starting to part company with the steel and the inner wheel arch seals are failing badly

The steel around this areas still good, just have to remake the lip for the inner seal and that part of the arch ..

Just single skin iirc, it's a while since I welded mine up!

The second skin seems to be along half the width of the entire arch

It's a good while since I last did one and can't really remember but I would imagine there will be an inner and outer arch in the door shut section

Can buy the outer arch separately but it's 45 quid and I'm cheap

The second skin is a reinforcement plate to spread the load of the lower seatbelt anchor ☺

Yes when i did my dimple had to use a few bits welded together to get the shape. Will try to get a pic for you. I think next time may just buy the bit as it seems its way a pro would go.

Weather looks like it's going to be ok tomorow so I'll attempt to recreate the section .. if i fail I'll just buy the panel lol.

It's a ballache to form, and even with the pattern ones I had to perform some precise adjustments with the tapping stick to make it fit

This has become a huge PITA.
There was a whole load of different patches welded underneath .. but just 1 peice on top ..
Chopped it all back to single skin and attempting to rebuild it all ..
Realised how awful I am at car welding

I've ended up chopping it above the mounting holes for the seat bracket .. looks like I have a 2 seater now

Once I've done the welding I'm painting the lot in some of that bed liner style paint and leaving carpets ect out ..

I could just do away with the lot of the rear, build a bulkhead and bolt a pick up bed to it ... does away with any rust
