Anyone know what material the differential housing / carrier on a Salisbury type axle is made from? It's a casting of some description with the axle tubes friction welded in place.
I want to weld a heavy bracket on tomorrow (not safety critical in any way - it's for a noise test on a development car). Whatever the material I'm guessing stainless wire would be the choice, but curious what it might be made from.
