cut 50 stopped working

  1. hifly Member

    Hi,
Not used it for some time, working when put away.
when turned on all seems ok,
pull trigger, air comes out, arc strikes then red light comes on (lock light)
I have lifted the lid and the spark gap is arcing nicely when trigger is 1st pulled, but not after the initial arc to work has been struck.
can't see any burn or damaged components.
any thoughts? have a few jobs to do now i have the time and then this, typical.
    any help appreciated.
    Cheers
    Vince

Maybe some pictures would be helpful for someone expert that could solve the issue

Sadly, you probably need to dismantle it and check each board. When mine went phutt (similar symptoms) there was nothing obvious till I started dismantling it.

put all new consumables in the torch.
tried air pressure from 40 to 80 psi.
some progress, after leaving it turned on (no cover) in the sun for an hour it has done a cut of about 600mm before it cut out, so my current thoughts are that it is damp and some drying out may fix the problem, i will give it a try in another hour and see if there is any improvement.

Ok, seems sorted, managed to get the most important job done (cut barrel in half for the misses) looks like it may just have been damp and leaving it on with the cover off in the sunshine seems to have fixed it.

    you shouldnt be below 60

from skotl as there a good guide even for me to use them and have no problems

I set the air at about 65psi and never touch it after that.

12 mm would be at 50A
    8mm at 30A
    6mm at 20A
    3mm at 15A
