Hi there, i thought id document the repairs im going to be doing here in the hope that people with the know how may be able to keep me right as i go. My corrado failed its last mot last year on excessice corrosion close to the rear suspension mounting point. I decided after getting some silly quotes that id have a go myself. Ive been gathering some equipment, borrowed my dads welder and have almost got everything i need (apart from much of a clue ha ha).
Ive removed most of the rot and the car needs a new sill, repairs to the inner sill and floor pan, and repairs to the inner and outer arches. Ive had to get replacement panels off donor vehicles as inner sills are not available niether are full sills or rear inner/outer arch repair panels. All that is available is the full rear quarter at a cost of over £700 last time i checked and a part sill repair piece.
Ive painstakingly seperated my new sill from the floor pan and inner sill by drilling all the spot welds out and prising the panels apart. This took forever and the lower lip of the sill is mishapen slightly due to the force exerted on it whilst trying to seperate it even after i thought i had removed all of the spot weld.
As it stands i have the car in my garage with most of the rot cut out, i have obtained new panels but i still need to seperate the outer and inner arches from each other. Also after removing paint and underseal i have found areas on the "new" old panels that will need some attention.
I suppose pictures would paint 1000 words so as soon as ive borrowed a camera ill get some taken and post them up here so people can see what they think. Im not certain of the best places to make the cuts to repair these panels at the moment so any advice is welcome. Also i cant seem to find any spot welds holding the arch panels together, where should i be looking? Ive removed paint and underseal from the inner arch face, the lip which faces the floor and the outer lip with no success if anyone can help? Pictures to follow asap, thanks.
