I want to buy a colechester triumph 2000. With a 5.5 kw motor.
Does anybody know if there is an inverter that can run off a 32amp 240v that will run it.

I changed the 3/5 hp two speed motor on a roundhead Triumph to a three hp, worked fine with a inverter.

    That's not 5.5kW though

In theory you'd only be drawing, I guess, 25A. It sounds possible but I'll wait until someone who's done it comes along to shoot me down

I don't think you'll find a domestic-market 5.5kw VFD, I remember reading somewhere that only up to 3hp or 3kw were 'approved' for UK domestic but I can't find the source of the info any more so it might be all bullwash. You can find Chinese units that powerful but you take pot luck on the quality.

You could always build a rotary converter.

Vary rarely you will be using the full 7 hp on the lathe 3 hp is quite adequate for most operations and you will still be able to take large cuts on the lower gear range.
