    Coffee table made to fit the gap between two chairs the top is made with yew wood. The sides are angle iron and the legs round bar

    Very nice, You can't beat a bit of practical innovation, To make the top a little more useful, the edges of the yew could be stepped down for the thickness of the angle iron, Making a flat surface, Hope you don't mind the comment!

    Don't varnish the yes. Wax, lots of thin coats. Or lots of oil.
    The wood will love you.

    Yes that's a good idea with the stepping down. I have also done exactly that I sanding sealed it 4 times than a wax over it I think varnish can make it look cheap. Good minds think alike.
