i bought this lathe about 3/4 years ago and while its been very usefull there has been a number of issues ive ran into basically down to it being a bit poor qualiity for turning big stuff and generally not well refined.
its to be expected for a cheap new lathe which has come from china and being sold by machine mart.
however there are plenty of people with these hobby machines that have modded them to be more caperble.
so i thought i would give it a go myself amounst doing some repairs.
one of my main gripes was the spindle speed was allways too fast and if you slowed it down it wouldnt have enough grunt.
its a variable speed lathe but does have a couple of pulleys i could change so the first thing i set about doing was changing the pulley ratio from a 17tooth motor pulley to a 12 tooth pulley and the 31 tooth spindle pulley to a 30 tooth so i can run a generic synchronius belt (the origenal is a weird design and expesive to replace).
after turning the new pulleys to size and boring them to the required shaft sizes, i tried filing the keyway for the motor pulley and after a significant amount of time i realised the £60 for a broach kit was money well spent
