A question for those of you that have experience of different machines.
I have a 20 year old Clarke 130TE (blue, if that's of any significance). The PCB has packed up, I can get a new one for around £70.
I use it for car restoration, it's been treated to a new return lead and clamp and it welds OK. Some of the bodywork I do is thin and I blow through occasionally, even when stitch welding. It's not great at plugging the holes - especially if I can't get my copper heat sink on the back.
Rather than repairing a 20 year old, would I be better buying something that goes a bit lower such as a £5-600 Portamig or similar. Will it be sufficiently better than the Clarke to warrant the extra cash?
Thanks, Stuart
