Hi all,
I am currently fixing up mini's as a hobby, and doing a few other small welding jobs. I have been TIG welding in the past with the use of a borrowed castotig TIG welder. Now this machine has to be returned, I want to get into using a MIG, so I went out and bought myself a second hand lump of turd in my oppinion (SIP 185). I would have gone out and bought a boat anchor if I needed one, but really didn't expect this welder (which was described as a perfect welder for all automotive body work!!!???)...yeah right!!
Well, to cut a long story short, I paid $700Aust for it, and the seller has quite happily agreed to take it back and get me another MIG welder, not realising that I had just gone from a Rolls Royce (castolyn CastoTig) to trying to drive a mazda 323 (SIP 185). What has been offered to me for $400 more is a CIG 265 SE.
My question is that I have tried to search for this welder to get some info on it, but am not having too much luck. Can someone advise me of what can be expected with a CIG 265 SE. Is it a good machine, and can the amperage be turned down enough to comfortably weld up old mini panels? The SIP185 didn't have a chance in hell in dialing the power down with suficient feed to comfortably weld the thin panels. I look forward to the responses that may come in.
On another hand BOC have an inverter welder that they are selling for $1185, they claim it is made by a Lincolne, but I highly doubt it. I have had good and bad reports of BOC welders being of the disposible type market.
I have been trying to read all of the advice weldmate has to offer, but nothiung yet on the CIG 265..
