Today I stripped the swinden and it is now in a vat of caustic solution cleaning.
Once it is clean hopefuly I can see what is wrong with it.

it aint bad mate just the inch of slop/play in it is the main concern, it is sitting at 90C now in the castic bath

Had to add some of this because the caustic ain't shifting the grease

Ok before all this it went through the dishwasher 4 times but it was still greasy!

Trisodium phosphate is good for shifting stubborn grease.

Is that a line of braze on the rear jaw?

not sure I think it could be a bead of weld that had been semi ground off.

Well the extraction here just blew up so I have no gas, bloody interlock! I shall leave it in the caustic solution over night as it cools and stick in in the dishwasher again tomorrow.

The vice now resides in the citric acid bath supprised how quick it is moving the rust at 60 deg C

I think it is the way the light hits it, it is cast

hotchef has the only swindon with a solid gold casting...ha! so when you were cleaning it as that the deep fat frier you use for chips

that aint a deep fat fryer it is the boiling kettle that @Richard. did the tig repair on I jus wanted to test his welds with caustic!
