We have an odd setup for our central heating controls - I suspect it was a reasonable solution in the late 90's when the system was installed but there must be a better solution today. Our house is linked to an annexe and one oil boiler serves both buildings. At the moment, the timer for the boiler is in the main house and there is a thermostat in the annexe.
I think the central heating in the main house is controlled by the timer and the boilers internal thermostat, when on, the central heating pump runs the whole time, so a bit crude and no real temp control within the house.
The annexe can only get heat when the timer in the main house is on and then I think the annexe thermostat is linked to the central heating pump in that building so that heat is circulated when the stat calls for it.
Both buildings get hot water when the hot water is set to come on (so if there is noone in the annexe, this seems a bit of a waste of energy)
Is there a way of keeping one boiler but basically decoupling the controls so that we can control each seperately? I.e. if my mother was living in the annexe, I dont want her to have to ask us to turn the central heating on etc and likewise it would be nice to have some temp control via an internal stat in the main house.
