Hi,
Im just about to try and make a proper job of some rather thick alluminium welds on a plenum chamber for a turbo motorbike, the chamber itself will take no more than 26psi of pressure so isnt exactly a pressure vessel, but Id still like it to be neat and proper. Wall thickness is 4mm, and I plan to preheat the part in my wood burning stove/oven firebox for a few minutes to preheat then once its welded stick it back in the oven section and just let the logs burn down naturally. Ive tried to weld this thickness before but without the pre and post heating, and although I could make a pretty bead it didnt have anything like the penetration that Id be happy with.
However, Ive read here about having to invert the polarity of the torch for ally welding, if I can make my welder make a neat bead, does that mean Im already on the correct polarity?
Also does anyone have a clue how to change it on a cebora pocket130???
I know Im asking a lot of this little mig, but I cant afford anything bigger for a few months yet, although I hope before the end of the year to have bought a older 3 phase industrial tig to replace it. Even if I have to sell one of my bikes to finance it...
