My local suplier now dose mac 5 it is used exactly the same as celly but using a different thinner. I don't know what what the paint is, but the guy in the shop recons its just as good. I have used it a couple of time and had good results.
I can still buy cellulose, and synthetic and 2 pack, by the way 2 pack is the worst as it contains isocynates, not good for your health. 2 pack gives the best finish on a non-metalic colour, easy to paint, just have good resperation gear
I recently bought some paint and lacquer from a seller on ebay, (huggspaint) or similar...
2litres of pearl paint mixed up, lacquer, thinner and carriage, was about £70 iirc.
1k celly colour, and 2k lacquer. The twin pack lacquers are restricted sales i believe, so some places wont sell it to an individual.
Movac paints told me (and Im no paint sprayer just collecting for a job) that 2k paints were going to be no more shortly, he did tell me what the new ones were called but had long lost intrest in the conversation, I did pick up tho, that the only nasty part of 2k paints are the lacquers. Someone like movac or carrs paints would soon tell you.
Halfords will mix nitrocellulose to any standard colour for £25 a litre. I can get 1966 MG Grampian grey from my local store, so I guess they can supply any colour.
Very true, but very handy on a Sunday afternoon. Like most things at Halfords, you can get it cheaper elsewhere, but we all keep coming back because its convenient.
We do quite a bit of smart repairs to the paint work on a lot of the cars I resell some are quite deep scratches.I have been using water based paints for about 2 months now and can say they are a lot easer to get on with than I first thought it was going to be. Gun cleaning for one, mixing and drying times have speeded up I am using Standox paint at the moment but have also had the rep from Meyer around the only thing that I have to do is keep some heating on in the workshop at night time just in case we get a frost.
Halfords is a good mix to match your car its just a shame they wont mix up smaller amounts in a can for the home user I make up what I wont just like they use the charts and it's weighed out almost the same to get the right colour
