Car diagnostic codes

The Seat Altea has produced another code that is baffling me.
It is coming up with "Exhaust Gas Temp Sensor 2 Bank 2 G449 P1961"

Now I have been on the net and found this site that if you type in the P number it fetches back the generic description of the defect This worked with the coolant message with P1290 for instance. I even found a site that covered makes i.e. VW and it showed the P1290 but not the P1961. Apparently it does not exist!
I then found a site that dealt with VW and somebody had reported he had the same message exactly as mine though his car was a MK5 Golf Diesel. Mine is petrol. In both instances no info could be found on the P1961 title or the G449! Most replies he got reckoned they did not exist!
Now I am assuming that the message is regards the post cat sensor(sensor 2!) which on the Seat has G130 as its title. So to say I am confused is an understatement. Any experts on forum able to help!

Having just tried it, I wouldn't attempt a Google search using term "P1961 VAG"

EGT is not the same thing as a lambda, and lambda faults are so common they're generally able to be covered under the P0xxx system of codes rather than P1xxx which designates manufacturer specific code.
You seem to be getting some very strange codes from that car, one has to beg the question of the scanner reading them correctly.

A lambda is not a temp sensor, the egr valve is something to do with cooling the engine internally so I was told.

That should give any of the codes known to VCDS, if it is not there I would be questioning your scanner as Andy said.

manfacture specific p codes, mixed with pattern scanners, and googel searches = give up.

usal trick with patten scanners and manufacture p codes is just unplug things in turn and see if you get any more codes. when you don't that bit is possobly broken.

First thing I tried was ross-tech but their listings of codes and types are very limited and does not cover that code. The scanner is very seldom used and so is like new. I got in touch with the supplier/manufacturer Gendan who sent me an update for it even though it was out of warranty, they are really helpful blokes. I doubt there is anything wrong with the reader as it was not a cheap one and worked fine diagnosing a multitude of faults on the daughter- in-laws VW Beetle OK.
Because I am also getting two temp sensor codes(G62 & G83) sporadically along with a ABS code (warning light of swerving car) that states Engine Control Module sporadic 013 check DTC memory. That code comes on and at the same time the coolant fan runs even though the engine temp is still at the bottom of the scale. Sometimes switching off the ignition then on(the handbook mentions to do that against the message description) gets rid of the message and the fan does not run at the same time until it is supposed to. AS the only link electrically is the engine computer I gained access(had to cut the security shear bolts off) and disconnected and removed it to check for corrosion or water ingress but all looked fine. I cleaned up two earth points in the plenum chamber where it is located but the "swerving car" came on after about 5 mins at idle. It cleared at the second recycle of the ignition switch. By the way what does DTC memory stand for?

The reader I got is type specific as a basis. I.e. Mine is for VW types so reads their "language". It is also able to read other types through the generic can system so is quite a good reader.

How do you access that then? Is there a book or do you need a "vcds"

VCDS is the software that comes with the dongle/obd2 reader for vw/audi group vehicles.

OK I have got a reader that has that. I was after the next stage of the diagnostic i.e. a list of possible causes to work through which is not on the reader as it only reads the code as is produced.
