not sure this is in right place but here goes
im building another streetfighter and i want to turbo it can anyone make or put me in contact with someone who can make me some headers/downpipes?
cheers in advance
pm please
What bike? Draw-through or blow-through?
There's a few guys on here can make nice headers. I made my own and had them welded. On bikes it's all about getting the turbo as high as possible. Most important!
That's what my friend has set up shop to do. He's got a GSX1400 that he's going to turbo. His speciality is located between Banbury and Brackley. PM if you're interested and I'll pass on his details.
(Hope I'm not violating any forum rules here!)
on a blow thru short headers keep the turbo high so you dont have to use a oil scavange pump to return the oil to the sump, though on big bhp bikes say 600bhp its advisable to use a pump. some bikes need longer headers to clear the front wheel when the forks are compressed..
Draw through is irrelevant as the turbo is where the carbs were and itll gravity drain any way
though short headers are not always best for flow log headers are crap (very short) compared to a nice flowing set
Flow = Power
As Joe says it's to let oil drain from the turbo to the sump. Bike engines tend to be very compact as well as short-stroke so quite often you have problems drining oil from the turbo cartridge. This is compounded by the oil rushing to the front AND the front suspension compressing under heavy braking. Some bikes will be fine normally but smoke like a chimney for a few seconds after braking hard.
I'm probably missing something here. None of my bikes have smoked due to braking. If oil gets into the combustion chamber due to braking, surely there's something more seriously wrong with the engine..?
Oil pump/scavenging I can understand as gravity is the law and you have to obey it.
