BZP round bar

My turn for a question:
I've been asked to look at a job which includes some machined pins. Spec is 20mm round ms, tapered both ends with a 6mm tapped hole in each end. The drawing specifies BZP but I don't believe there is such a thing, I've certainly never seen any, has anyone else? Obviously hot-dip galving is out of the question.

You'll have to make them and then send them for zinc plating after manufacture, I do this kind of stuff all the time.

When i worked for a refurbing company we used to zinc plate all steel parts ,angle ,gears ,shafts everything ,have to be careful with dimension tho as the plating adds to the dimension ,believe there is a place in westbury that does it ,we used to use a place in bristol tho.....Gav

That's what I was thinking, I've just had a google and there's an electroplating place not far from me in Corsham, will give them a call tomorrow.

ask to have a wander around wozz ,quality of finish is dependant on how often they change their chemicals and how well they dry,and how polished(smooth )the original part,we used to get at best ,not far off chrome at worst looked matt like galv.......i've heard of corsham,think they do chrome and anodising as well,,other place is in cary court westbury industrial estate on same road as old Avon mixing plant on lefthand side(i haven't used them either),would it not be cost effective to use stainless?or are there too many ,not hard enough?etc

I think they're for use with some galved brackets Gav, stainless and zinc don't get on too well I gather?

Yeh there will be a reaction,could take years ,but if the spec is for bzp and customer is happy with the cost shouldn't be a problem ,3rd 4th 5th of jan i'ves got access to lathe if its not too many ,if its any help
