I'm wanting to convert my SIP 130 amp buzzbox from air cooled to oil.
I'm thinking a nice sheet of 2mm steel, chopped and MIG'd up in a fashion similar to an Oxford oil cooled style, fabricate a brace on the bottom and the sides to provide extra support for the weight of the oil and to support the transformer.
I'm looking to stitch weld with gasless mig with the heat cranked up to prevent pin holes, maybe a few passes on the inside and out, dye penetration test to be sure of no pinholes, then seal the inside welds with some kind of oil proof sealant.
The lid will be a seperate piece, with holes cut for power cables, dinse? plugs and a hole in the middle for the transformer shunt screw power selector, and in each corner of the lid a screw hole to screw down the lid which will sandwitch a paper/card gasket...
Does this sound do - able?
I'll sketch up some drawings and upload here..watch this space
How much is transformer oil? Possibly need 6 litres.
