Following this thread http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/saturday-in-the-workshop.86704/ a while back

After a session in the blast cabinet many horrors were revealed. Despite me doing some patch repairs I discovered the whole lower area an inch up was rotten.
The owner still wants it repairing to keep it original.

So out with the angle grinder and cutting disk

    And making patterns inbetween.

On the pic above I've got the fresh steel in and started welding, sanding and planishing.

It's been a challenge as the steel is only 0.9mm thick

The rest of the tank is sound. I think it may have been stored in a damp shed or with a small amount of bad petrol still in the tank.

No I'm just doing the fabrication/metal bashing. The owner wants to keep it un restored for now and he didn't want to buy an Indian reproduction that wouldn't match the patina of the rest of the bike.
It would be cheaper for him to replace rather than me repair but he wants it to stay British.

Yeah he maybe correct, the indian tanks aren't great, they are usually the wrong shape, and the workmanship and materials are spotty to say the least.

I trust it's British steel you're using in these repairs? :)

Don't know about the source of the steel but the TIG I'm using is made in York and when I stop for refreshments it's Yorkshire tea :D
