Thanks octo,
I was going to buy one I saw on eb*y recently, but I had no feedback about my question. It was in Ripon so not that far from me. It went for £107! Was that a good price? I wanted a decent one I could put in tha back of my car relitively easily. Were they any cop?
Thanks BBboy
if you buy any second hand mig welder you want to see it working before you buy price sounded ok but all depends on machine spec and what you want it to do if you want to weld 10mm steel then it's more than likely going to be 3 phase 440 volts but say up to 6 mm you would need 200 amps max then single phase 240 volts 32 amp supply up to 150 180 on household stuff
a good all round mig will be from 25 amps to say 180amps that will run on cooker type supply at top end of normal 13amp up to say 150amps
the best for low amps for thin stuff and up to 200amps are the portomigs about the only one that goes to 15 amps but at a price also most mig state will weld up to 6mm but more like 4mm 6mm iis only with V prep i suggest you do a fair bit of reading on here and you tube to get a good idea of what you want
Britweld were a manufacturer based in Hartlebury many years ago & we used to sell their kit. Now defunct & no chance of spares unless you could really identify the item & get something the same from an electrical catalogue (not easy). For what it's worth we are using the name BritArc for our range of single phase Mig welders & in September we are offering a free 24 hour trial if youcan collect & return from one of our depots. Have a look on our web site under What's New if you have any interest, address is wellyweld.co.uk.
Going back to the Britweld, think it would be trouble.
