Bottle volumes

Hi all.

Could someone please explain the bottle volumes to me, I bought disposables from Weldequip which contained 110 Litres which last roughly 11 minutes each.
Adams Gas are offering bottles they say contain 13 Litres that last for 5 hours welding. How does this work out? I am trying to source a reasonable costing hobby welding gas local to me and am finding it too costly from BOC or Air Products because of the rental costs. Adams have a fairly high delivery cost but no rental and no collection charge. I don't expect to be doing a lot of welding but it will be a bit costly using disposables while I learn the basics.

The Adams gas will be the compressed volume, while the disposables are quoted on the uncompressed volume.

Disposables are listed in the volume of gas released.

Refillables are by the bottle volume. 13L would be the volume of the bottle. Filled at 230 bar (230 x atmospheric pressure) that would be 230 x 13l = 3000L of gas.

3000l divided by 10l/min is 300 min of welding or 5 hours.

I dont know if you can still get the Volkzone offer for Argoshield light from BOC but for £61 ( inc vat , no delivery charge if you pick it up ) for the first year including gas to last about 12 hours , I couldnt see anything cheaper and I did a lot of searching around trying to find a better deal . I will not be doing a lot of welding myself but after the equivalent cost of 5 disposable bottles I will break even and thats coming soon , so far all I have done is weld steel balls to a scaffolding pole but now I hope to progress on to something more challenging .

I'm trying for the Volkzone but think it's finished, AP are very high cost just now, Gasman is too far away in Manchester, I'm in Falkirk, nr Stirling. So Adams sounds a good deal as they deliver here for £36.00.

I get mine from edwards in Perth.

coogar5 big bottle X47S is iirc £35 fill and £8 month rental
rental is due 6 monthly march and september. when you get the bottle the charge the fill rate and the number of monts till the next bill is due so 2/3 months. I think is was £70ish for the gas and 5 months rental

Got a big bottle 'cause the smaller one is the same price.

I'm looking at the Volkzone offer but the bottle is huge!!! I really think I'll go for either Gasman, Adams or a guy on Ebay who is offering the gas cheap enough. The collection is the killer here! It looks like the bottle is the same size as a co2 pub gas bottle and I think it'll be the same size from these three suppliers, namely 9 or 10 litres pressured up to 1288 with Argon/co2 . That size is about all I could handle at the moment and it would fit my little trolley.
