I recently bought a Record 643 vice and it’s rather poorly I’m afraid to say. It’s had a tough life, but it’s a rare pattern vice and worth saving. The screw is held in place with a cap screw which I think is non original. Neither heat nor brute force, bolt removers or drilling have been successful so far.
The Allen key size was neither imperial or metric, and both were slipping. This has never happened before so I decided to drill it out with a cobalt drill bit - but I’ve only got about 2mm in and it doesn’t want to go any further. I’m at a bit of a loss with what to do. I don’t own a mill otherwise I was thinking of milling it out. Any ideas? I can provide pics but it’s pretty much what I said!
