I’ve been tinkering knocking up this boot rack / stool thingy for our little porch over the last few days. It is mostly TIGed together for no other reason than I felt like playing around with my TIG but when I got to welding the slats together for the boot rack TIGing them was going to take forever so I blasted those together with the MIG. The bottoms of the legs are capped with 8mm plate and drilled and tapped for rubber feet.
I now need to drill some holes in the rails at the top to screw down the wooden top from underneath – that would have been a lot more easily done on the pillar drill before welding those sections of box into the frame but I was too impetuous and wanted to crack on with welding it together!
It has been an enjoyable little project. Regardless of the quality of my welding it ain’t going to be collapsing anytime soon (believe me, I have been heaving it in various directions with great long levers to get it square). The size of the material (30 by 30 box) was chosen more with getting it looking proportionally right in mind, rather than for strength.
