OK - comedy of errors here... I bought a 2m x 1m x 3mm sheet for the top of my new welding table, knowing in my heart that it wasn't thick enough.
But a couple of folks on here suggested mounting it on top of some wood and, as it 'appens, I had some 2" thick solid wood worktop going spare (don't tell the wife )
So I cut the sheet to (over)size and laid it on the wood, then cut a couple of notches in the corners.
Then I hit it with a hammer.
It may only be 3mm but it's tougher than me and my hammer
I'm now thinking of the following;
What do you think re the bending bit (ignoring, for now, the wisdom of the whole wooden base saga)? Will a £30 blowtorch give sufficient heat and will I get the whole 1m width sufficiently hot to be able to bend it?

I'm now thinking of the following;
- Get the sheet set up for the appropriate size, with the edge hanging over a chunk of 25mm2x3mm steel box
- Cutout tool to score the line where I want to bend it
- Heat 'er up with the blowtorch
- Whack it with a hammer
- Repeat for the next bend
