Bender flog or repair

Just dropped on a job lot of bits and bobs from a workshop that's closing.
In amongst the stuff is a Clarke hydraulic pipe bender that's complete but he tells me its not working so any top tips to fix it?
Or should I just sell it spares or repairs?

Its usually just the seals in the pump, There's not alot to them really.

Its the old time thing, would it sell as a Non runner or would I have to fix it? I just need some cash back for it to offset the other stuff I bought, will have a proper look tomorrow and call Clarke re bits

as said just the seals in the ram part or u could use a bottle jack

I bet it just wants topping up and bleeding. They don't get used enough to wear the seals out.

I think its a case of the seals drying out, i have had several Chinese jacks fail due to this.

Slacken the release screw and pump it a few times then tighten it back up and see if it does anything, my engine hoist has done it a few times and always springs back to life with a bit of treatment.

From memory he told me it was leaking badly so he just bought another used the new one a couple of times now they have shut up shop so I actually have two, so the mention of a bottle jack have got me thinking, I have a spare 6 ton jack and to be honest I only need the bender for small stuff so I will see if I can use the broken one with my jack and then sell the new one on.

I doubt if a bottle jack would have enough stroke to be useful.

What sort of figure for it 'as is'? Would one of these bend small diameter rod [say, up to 10mm]?

Easily, you can bend 10mm rod round your knee. I have used mine to put a tight bend into 16mm round bar and to straighten out a bent bell hammer shaft that was 1 1/8" round.

A lot of people buy them as a tube bender then are horribly disappointed in their new pipe squasher.

Just wondered if it was the bottle jack crossbow type. Machine Mart were really unhelpful with spares recently for one of their jacks, ended up getting parts from Draper Tools instead.

The jack I have in mind has an adjustable stroke so whilst it wont be perfect it would serve a purpose as its only for occasional use so if I can make the old one work I can sell the new one

It will come in handy even if you never use it
I will try and sort out whats what this week then which ever I decide to part with I will place in the sales section, I am going back tomorrow to see what else he has, as I have my eye on a nice little apprentice size tool chest but he wants to flog job lots so will have to buy some other odds and ends with it.

Yes, mine has stopped the underside of my bench from floating away for years.
