I feel embarassed to ask you all, but...
Having over the past 50 years worked with all sorts of cheap chinesium drill bits, drilling all sort of metal, I have been generally unsuccesful, I now have a small arbor press that I want to put an 8mm tread into the end of the ram, and don't want to bugger it up, so it's time to swallow my pride and ask for help.
It's steel, but I don't think it's hardened, so I'm thnking HSS Tin drill bits?
I need a 7mm hole - so will probably step up from 2-4-7 is that about right?
I will slow my pillar drill down to around 1000 RPM (I've always run it too fast and heated stuff up)
Am I worrying too much or will any drill bit (Abracs from Toolstation?) do the job. If not - is there a better online supplier and brand?
For cutting fluid - do I just go 3-in-1, or splash out on CT-90, or something else. I need tiny amounts, so don't want to go 25litres!.
Any and all advice gratefully received.
Thanks.
