I have a cheap generic auto darkening mask, and on the inner face of the cartridge is a plastic screen. Ive pulled it out to clean and it appears to be made of polycarb and very very lightly tinted green itself, almost invisible, although its scratched lots now almost to opacity.
Without it I can see a LOT clearer, the difference between stabbing myself with the tig tungsten and striking up on the filler rod and doing a proper weld difference. Is it possible this forms part of the uv protection mechanism or is it just for protection of the cartridge?
After a long tig session with it removed I have mild arc eye sensations (gritty eyes late at night, woke up with lots of crud encasing them and sensitive to monitor screens) although it could be I didn't have the shade turned up enough for the amperage in use and at one point did manage to get a heavy flash when I put the torch down onto a metal bench.
Can I just replace it with a clear plastic protection? / is the uv protection that works in the actual lcd unit itself and Im just overworrying?
