I have a sealey 235 (1 year old) and i wondered if there was any particular setting that the tap on top of the bottle should be set to or is that a trial and error thing ?I have the setting on the wire speed real low and the amperage on 1 when welding car bodywork which is rare,but i do realise i am overpowered on mig size for cars bodywork.Any form of help would be appreciated please and thankyou..Rayh

If it is disposables, wide open.

If refillable, then set till the gauge reads 10LPM.

The tap on the cylinder should be open till your regulator receives the full pressure of the gas inside. The regulator should be adjusted to whatever you need to do the job. I usually just wind it in till I can hear a gentle hiss with the trigger pulled and wire feed disconnected then check it, as long as it covers the weld you are good to go.

The cylinder valve is not designed to be 'set', its either open or shut. I open mine approx half a turn or 180 degrees, you can hear the gas pressure hit the regulator.

Slight hijack, but do the disposables use the same regulator as the proper bottles? I've never seen a disposable in person but am wondering if I can use one with my MIG easily. I want to do some minor work over an indeterminate time period so bottle rental is equivalent to flushing my cash down the bog.

Hi,

its a much smaller thing without any guages. The part that screws onto the bottle is only about 10mm diameter. The control knob is about 1" (25mm) diameter.

They're probably not very expensive. I have the original that I got with the welder and one 'spare' unused disposable bottle to use as an emergency if I run out during a job.
