argon vs co2 actual fact not 54th hand info!

hi all today and yesterday iv been welding some lanndie series footwells in with forum member mowersman, i was using clarke wire with co2 shielding gas and it honestly dosent look/feel any different to the clarke 230en at work on argoshield
is there genuinely anny difference other forum members have notices?

On a good welder the differences are minor:

1. Arc has a more yellowish glow on CO2 (more blue on argon mixes.)
2. Usable wire speed range is narrower.
3. Penetration is wider
4. The buzz of dip transfer is softer and faster.
5. Slightly more spatter.
6. Current is slightly less
7. Torch runs cooler.

#2 comes into effect the most. If you have a MIG that does not have a constant wire speed, you will get more spatter. It also means that if you vary the torch/work length it may go out of the usable range.

Up till this week I have always preferred using an Argoshield 75/25 mix I have just bought the nicest welder I have ever used. It has an inductance control and I am getting ZERO spatter with co2. I have always liked the bead appearance of argoshield in comparison but this machine has thrown that out the window.
