Hi All,
I want to arc weld 2.5 - 3mm plate spikes to a drum which I will use as a garden aerator similar to this:
The walls of the drum are fairly light, maybe 0.9mm, so I'm concerned about blowing holes in it. I was thinking to fill the drum with water as this may dissipate some of the heat while still getting good penetration on the 3mm spikes. I have used a similar technique by inserting a cold metal bar into light tubing that i was welding and it did the trick where I was blowing holes in the tube previously.
I'm aware that water and electricity is not a good combination but provided I'm careful and dont spring a leak it there any other way the drum may come 'live' with the water inside?
