Anyone daily driving Windows 11 yet?

As above, I have had it on my mini laptop since it was on Windows Insider and I like it, but if that machine died it wouldn't be the end of the world

I am upgrading the NVME drive in my main laptop and would normally do a clean install, so have been considering 11

Any thoughts? (Unless those thoughts are MS are spying on me, Windows is rubbish, Linux is better, I still have a 14 year old PC running XP etc)

I'm not nostalgic for it. 7 was my sweet spot but finally ditched it in January.

Far easier to run an xp machine that trying to get old SCSI boards and software from the early 90s running on 10 for what I need. Will be isolated from my network and only house audio samples and a couple of trackers

Same here but its not used online,my tough book is only used for diagnostics. I have done the upgrades to windows ten on everything else and cant honestly say I can tell the difference, only did this because I was told support and updates had stopped. I suppose they will blackmail us all into using windows 11 in time.

Just a gimmick to help sell new prebuilts and laptops.


What's the crack with edge on 11. From what I gather they're making it very hard to avoid using it

Ive no issue disabling it on the mini laptop, id say its more than a 10 update

If they had rolled out 11 as an update there would have been an outcry

Rolling it out as an apparently new OS gives people time to come to terms with the changes

By the time 10 is no longer supported il probably make the move to Linux tbh as long as I can get my vr SIM racing gear/games running.

Too much effort to remove all the crap I don't want on there as it is on 10. Worse on 11 from everything I've seen.


Wonder what happens with these links when edge isnt installed.

I tried it but overall it gets a thumbs down from me. The main reason is that so many components of it are obviously moving towards a subscription model for usage. More and more tech companies are going this way with another large corp (Cisco) now wanting me to pay a license cost to use a piece of hardware I bought and paid for.

It is just becoming so blatantly thieving. If I buy a new PC complete with this Windows 11 operating system I then have to pay again to Microsoft, even if it’s only with my private data (only!) to be able to use it. This isn’t like a subscription to (say) Adobe for Creative Cloud, or M$ to use Office365 etc, this is like being bullied into sharing data with M$ just to be able to use the hardware I’ve bought and paid for.

I've updated to windows 11 on my laptop, I only use it for browsing on the internet, so far no issues, I was wondering if I would have enough storage space for it as its only got a 64gb drive, bit it went through without hiccups......I did have to google how to turn the laptop off once it was installed.

Im not sure if windows 10 has been deleted by the update, but think I read that you have 1 week to revert back to windows 10, and windows 11 install etc is currently 40GB on my laptop.

windows 10 and 11 are like

windows x64 and windows 7 to me both was released a year apart from each other

and thats because people refused to buy vista

windows 10 was given away freely as they didnt want another vista fiasco with windows 10 which they would have got

the windows 7 being the better system

Doesn't appear to be ready yet, too many issues being reported by too many people, although not everybody. Just like games I think they release new software even though they know there are faults and basically perform a massive beta test while automatically collecting huge amouts of data from users making them participants in their development process. If they were honest about it I would see no issue with that.

I fear this thread is just going to be a rerun of earlier "Windows rools / sucks, and I wish I was still running XP /Windows NT / Win98 / Win95 / Windows for Workgroups" threads but, to answer the OP:

Yep - two of our three daily drivers have been running Windows 11 since it was in beta. Absolutely zero issues and my personal opinion (which, like all personal opinions, won't be shared by everyone) is that it is absolutely fine. The only reason I wouldn't run it is that the third's hardware isn't compatible with it so I'll leave that on Win10 until it's time to replace the motherboard.

Windows 2000 was the best they did based off NT as I recall.

ME was awful, XP OK I suppose and it lasted for long enough that you got used to it. 7 OK 8 forgettable 10 is OK, but 11 wants new hardware so most people will never go there.

I've just started playing with some old Sun hardware again, and have Linux standing by. I use a MacBook Air because I liked the new M1 chip idea and had some spare cash when it came out, but my main PC is running win10.

It is actually a 10 year old HP workstation with dual/quad xeon I got for 80 quid which is running 4 secondhand monitors, so although I am technically a power user, I'm not in the win11 market at all, the machine won't recognise nVme drives never mind anything more modern, so M$ aren't going to get my custom!

Not exactly. They haven't blocked other browsers, but have made the process of switching away from Edge more complicated. This is pretty crummy, to be honest, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the EU forced them to simplify this again so it feels like an unforced own goal.
