Hi all,
Hoping to mine the collective wisdom for a good way to do this:
I have to drill two 12mm holes to a depth of about 20mm in a piece of 35mm mild steel bar.
I need the two holes to be perpendicular on the x axis (if that's a thing on a circle) and line up on the longitudinal axis. Apologies for the crap drawing, I'll try and take a pic of first attempt tomorrow.
My freehand attempt worked but I'd like to be a bit more precise on the next one.....
Is there a section on the forum for idiot cock ups like making the first one out of 30mm bar? Duh!! Yup that"s what I managed today anyway, I'm going to look upon it as a combination of idiot mistake and opportunity to do it better.
I have a drill press, or hand held drills and that's it. On the first attempt I just stepped up in 2mm drill sizes until bingo the 10mm was all wonky. The vice for the press is dreadfull so any funky work holding solutions also gratefully received.
Marking out went ok, I can do that stuff but making sure that the first hole is properly centred and perpendicular was ok....ish, just about worked out.
Getting the second to match was tricky, v tricky.
Can anyone tell me how they've gone about this please?
many thanks in advance.
