Angle grinder

I'm after a decent 'un.
115mm, pref M14 thread.
Looking to spend 50 quid or there abouts. I don't want a cheap one cos it just won't last/cope with a 1973 restoration job!
Can anyone recommend a good un? Are Makita grinders good?
I think I'll be steering clear of dewalt. No idea what hitachi/b&d etc are like.

I don't think you can go far wrong with the blue professional bosch grinders (standard are green, don't know if there is any real difference?) Ebay Just make sure you get the 240V and not the 110V by mistake.

We have an old 4" Hitachi which my dad brought 20 years ago and it was second hand then, this one is still going strong. I still like to use it as its smaller and lighter to use than a 4 1/2". Don't know how much they have changed though in 25 years

Matebo I think the spellings Right, Given mine a few years of industrial use, That said I quite often go down Macros and buy half a dozen of the six quid ones when there on offer, who cares if they get nicked ran over or droped overboard..

As snowcat says metabo grinders are nice, perhaps a little more expensive than the rest, but as a rule the quality and durability speaks for itself. A metabo grinder normally last me about 4-5yrs of serious abuse, i push grinders to the limit.

Think Metabo are regarded as the best; I've had an Hitachi for years & years although it doesn't really get that much use. Makita. Blue Bosch are good too (avoid the green if you want better quality).

Have killed lots of grinders over the years but Metabo are the best,just keeps going plus three year warranty

This one is a nice metabo one has speed control as well so you can use soft pads and slow it down so its not so agressive. Works nice but is a fair bit over your budget, not sure what the current price is but i paid about £130 for mine about 3-4 years ago

I've always run blue Bosches. The '90s ones were great. Mid 2000s were built down to a price and lasted accordingly, but my latest seems better made.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but in my personal opinion, if they're being used for a hobby rather than your livelyhood, I'd have (and do have) 2 cheap-ish grinders rather than 1 quality/expensive one.

There's nothing more annoying to me than having to stop whatever I'm doing to change from grinding disc to cutting disc to wire brush etc.

Although TBH I do have 1 quality grinder and 2 cheapos

It's not a bad idea having a couple - even the most lovely break eventually and it's always just when you need it.

I've never had a really really cheap one, but a friend borrowed one for 5 minutes grinding and it broke (he had to replace it). Bet some are OK though - which do you have Uncle Fista?

I bought one of those performance power jobbies from b&q cos I needed one desperately, it lasted less than ten minutes! Took it back and bought a hitachi from somewhere else

i've still got and use my b&d proline 720w from 18yrs ago, it gets abused too.
brought a b&d couple of years ago died very quickly with minimal use

Had a Skil grinder last year and at 14 month old with little use it decided to burst into flames just when i needed it most, after giving it a good seeing to with a lump hammer there wasnt a lot left to return to Argos(half price special)
