I'm lucky to have a very old SIP 130 with a big motor and have added a separate supply and PWM drive. It now works pretty well.
As I have an electronics background it occurred to me that the automatic wire speed adjustment that is standard might be useful to retain and the current modifications loose this.
I have an idea that could maintain (i hope) the automatic adjustment, use a separate supply and add PWM motor control.
I won't try on mine as the big motor feeds well but it may help on the newer ones which seem to use a low power motor.
If any ones interested i can sketch it out and help with fitting / trying it ( via forum unless you close to me)
