Hi all.
so today I had a bit more time to practice ally... bear in mind, I haven't done much.
Richard let me had a go about 2 years ago at the end of the day, I had a little go laying beads the other day...and now this.
Setup:
1.5mm wall ally tube
2.4 tungsten, white tip
1.6 filler rod.. but soon realised could be too small and done most of them with 2.4 5356
40A starting, 75A welding
80Hz freq, 35% balance
glas flow on 10
8 cup
One thing I can't do for the life of me is tac weld by just melting the 2 sides. I see people doing it on youtube.. I cant do it. I've tried slowly on the pedal, try to heat one side and pull to the other... everything, cant do it!
which can be a pain having to clamp everything just to lay a tac as I need both hands for the torch and filler rod.
Anyway.. here's some photos. what do you think? where am I going wrong?
Are my settings ok?
I seem to get some nice ones, then some really bad ones.
I found that sometimes I can see it trying to blow a hole and I back off the pedal, but then I have to get back on it to keep moving...
I also think my position when welding is not the most comfortable... I can't seem to find a way to put the piece i'm welding in a way that i can have my arms comfortable...
I guess i'm trying to figure out if I'm going in the right direction and now it's a case of practice, practice, practice... or maybe I should play more with the settings!
@richard, I might need to visit you again one of these days! if you weren't so far away I'd have been knocking on your door again hahaha
thanks !
