The have cracked due to coming in contact with the rear of a lorry
they also have special ends on and i have just found the one into the condencer is broke and that cant be replaced without a new condencer which is about £1500
Crumbs! I'd live without aircon - it's not working on my Volvo and it's no problem.
i paid £80 for the whole lot i just got to fit it now
i am going to have a go at welding it nothing to lose
From what you have mentioned I would be tempted to presure check all the other components prior to carrying out a lot of work fitting it.
Have you worked with vehicle aircon before then?
With respect the project could be a nightmare.
Hose/pipe presures on cars could reach 10 Bar, commercial systems are even higher.Sounds like one too many noughts on your condenser price what vehicle do you have (I may be able to assist)

I tried the AC befor returning a few days later to remove it. by then the pipes were all ready removed
I have tinckered with car AC and i work on MF tractors so i have done a bit with them
I am defo going to get the condencer and pipes pressure tested befor i use them
The kit is going into a Transit 2.5 TCI

I have a bit of experiance in this field as well as welding I do a bit of air con work, I did the training when I was first self employed incase I was ever a bit slack, The problem with many of the ally componants on a system is the gauge used norrmaly you can be mesureing them in thous, even with the best tig in the world this becomes a problem, anything around condensers and evaps is then made worse because of the draw from the sink, second problem is oil which is ingressed into the system, that on top of oxidation on an old system, just creates a difficult situation, It is posible and I have done fixes but only on very expensive evaps and condensers overwise its not cost effective, also i made rigs up to pressure test with OFN once welded , A better option would be to use a system such as lokring to fix the parts. + if its an R12 system most of it will be scrap anyway.
Oh yes forget the mig no chance a TIG only job that is, 134a has a tiny particle size so even porus pipes and R12 rubber hoses will leak which is part of the reason why 134a can not just be dropped into an old system.

Lokring are a special fitting made to join ally air con pipes together therefore a splice can be made a bit like a comprestion fitting, the best way to tell which gas it was made for is from the charge ports, R134a bayonet quick release, R12 screw type schrider valves, If it is an R12 system then all the pipes will need replaceing along with the compresser, people will tell you you can use replacement gases etc, in my experance you cant, they all leak or cause compresser's to fail, where are you if you , I have the gear to make hoses?

Now it's all repairable but you do need to get componants swaged or lokring fixed together, the rubbers simple to put a splice in but need's about £800 of swager to do it, This is going to be a case of the cheepest option which is to get someone to fix the pipes, then you can do the rest and get it pressure tested and charged, instvac will put you in the right direction of someone local to you who can crimp you new ends and joint the broken pipes, you can do a search here, http://www.instvac.co.uk/customer_page_1.htm
