Hi All,
Not sure if this is the best place to post this question, but a project is likely to be the outcome.
I need to replace the front cross member on a 1998 Clio. First question I guess is:
does anybody have any experience of this or a similar job they could pass on?
Looking at it with all the surrounding bits removed, my thoughts are:
Drill out the spot welds holding the whole lot together (this will leave holes in the good metal as the x-member sits 'underneath' the other body parts).
Remove bent and twisted metal
Offer up, align and clamp the new part.
Plug weld (with the MIG) through the holes in the existing metal to the new metal.
I must add, I am not (yet) proficient with the MIG (leaving that bit to others), but am reasonably confident in undertaking the job.
As always though, the shared experiences of others will help me a great deal. Any help and advise will be gratefully received.
Alan
