Hi Everyone,
This is my first time here and I've just been reading some of the info, which I've found informative and useful. My situation is I have a 2004 Transit Minibus which I'm converting into a camper. It's actually in good condition for its age but i've found a hole in the off side outer sill. Rather than pay for someone else to do it I thought I'd take the plunge and get my own welder. I've had a transit before and spent nearly 2 grand over the years on welding. I am not going down that road again.
I've done welding before at college (Toolmaking apprenticeship 22 years ago). I really enjoyed acetylene welding but also found MIG very easy. I do realise that the conditions were ideal as was always new, clean steel, in a clean workshop, etc. I know welding a crusty van will not be so easy.
So I've got £250 for a welder. Could maybe add a little to it. I want something reliable and durable as I can see there will be lots of patches required in the future. It will mainly be bodywork, plus probably chassis plates, plus fixing exhausts etc. I like the idea of gasless as it seems hassle free and cheaper. All of my welding will be done outside and it's usually windy here (NE Scotland).
I've been looking at Clarke MIG151EN Turbo No Gas/Gas MIG Welder.
Any advice very much appreciated.
Thanks
Rich
