Last night I had a visit by a friend who is an experienced arc welder and he looked over some welds of mine and we talked about welding and I mentioned I tried uphill welding and it didn't go so well, he said that's too advanced for me at this stage, weld up a few more packs of 7018 first (still on my first pack of electrodes!).
Anyway I mentioned I had welded these at almost 90 degrees, with a slight push angle perhaps (IIRC I got that from weldingtipsandtricks) but he said to use a much sharper push angle, like 45 degrees upwards. That seems counter to what I have heard. What do you guys say?
Also I got two packs of 3.2mm electrodes that are not that good, been sitting for some time in a less than good setting before they came with the welding machine I bought prior to the one I own today. Can I dry them out in a regular oven that only goes to 250C or is that a waste of time and energy?
